What Benefits Are Veterans Entitled To?
Those people that are veterans of the United States Armed Services are entitled to a number of different benefits. In addition to veterans being entitled to benefits, their immediate family is often entitled to some benefits as well.
One of the most useful benefits provided to veterans is medical care. Most veterans are entitled to medical care that covers preventative services, treatment and diagnostic services, as well as hospital stays. In come cases veterans can also get coverage for long term care in a nursing facility, as well as some Home Care services.
To be eligible for these benefits you must have had a 2-year continuous active duty service, unless you were active duty prior to 1980. You may also qualify for benefits if you are disabled due to an injury received during active duty. In most cases there are no charges related to receiving services if you are a veteran, and those that must pay a co pay the cost is usually fairly low.
Additional benefits include disability payments; those that received an injury that led to a disability as a result of active duty are eligible for veteran’s disability payments, as well as those that service active duty and became disabled later. The disability does not have to be related to their service during active duty in the military.
To qualify for these types of benefits you must be a veteran that service active duty, be disabled or at least 65 years old. The amount of money you receive will depend on your current income. The more dependants you have, the higher exemption you will get on your countable income. Countable income does not include payments from Social Security, or medical coverage from Medicaid or Medicare.
To find out if you qualify you can contact the Veteran Administration and ask how you can apply for benefits. Those that are disabled or reaching the age of retirement should take advantage of any veteran’s benefits that they are entitled to. These benefits will help you stretch your retirement finances because your medical care may be covered, plus there is a possibility that you could get addition income through your veteran’s benefits.
